Oh, Dakota Moon, shed your light
Upon the lonesome prairie tonight.
Guard the ripening fields of grain
Until it is harvest time again.
When the day comes to an end,
May showers of moonbeams you send -
Filled with dreams from up above
Fall upon those who are so in love.
Light the path of those who roam
Whose travels take them far from home.
Guide them safely on their way
Through the night until break of day.
Dakota Moon, as you wax and wane,
Shine your light upon my windowpane.
Knowing you're there up in the sky
Gives me comfort as time goes by.
