looking like white cake frosting
the January snow covers the yard
not a track or a crack in its dusting
since yesterday when it snowed so hard


it's been a white world for two weeks now
since the January thaw went away
and when will this infernal cold finally leave
is something that no one can say


but it's almost February, no relief in sight
another month when things might get worse
more snow, more ice, more gray cloudy skies
more reason for people to curse


then March and April will come on in
bringing sunshine and rain and the flowers
so just have patience, February will pass
i'll count the arrival of Spring by the hours.
