It was a beautiful Autumn day along the lane.
The cotton field was white across the way as I looked through my window pane.
There on a post of the bobbed wire fence in majesty sat a very large bird with a regal air.
I ran to get my binoculars so that I could stare.
I thought for a moment he was an Eagle as he had talons so strong.
Upon closer inspection, I knew he was a great Hawk,
And to a group of magnificent birds he did belong.
He was a wonder to view, and I stared in awe.
What damage he could do with one rake of that claw.
Regal he was, and I never forgot his presence that day.
A beautiful creature that allowed me to view him for a few moments, but with a mighty flap of wings, he soon flew away.
